Dr. Kaushik Majumdar
Director
Dr. Kaushik Majumdar was born in 1962, in Burdwan, West Bengal. He earned his B.Sc.(Ag) Hons. degree with specialization in Soil Science from Visva-Bharati University, India, in 1984. He received his M.Sc. degree in agricultural chemistry and soil science in 1987 and moved to Rutgers University, New Jersey, for his doctoral work. At Rutgers, Dr. Majumdar taught undergraduate soil science as a teaching assistant and worked on projects related to mineral weathering and soil development as a research assistant. He received his Ph.D. in 1993 and accepted a Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (India) Associateship to work on pollution aspects of new and old alluviums of eastern India. Dr. Majumdar joined the Potash Research Institute of India (PRII) as scientist in charge of the soil mineralogy laboratory in 1995. During his tenure at PRII, he worked on various aspects of K desorption from mineralogically different soils of India. He has also done important work on K fixation and release of fixed K in Alluvial, Black, Red, and lateritic soils of India and mineralogical aspects influencing the processes. He was also the Associate Editor of the Journal of Potassium Research, a quarterly peer reviewed journal dealing with all aspects of K research in agriculture, from 1996 to 1999. Dr. Majumdar joined Potash & Phosphate Institute of Canada-India Programme (PPIC-IP) in 1999 as a Deputy Director. Located in Calcutta, is responsible for PPIC-IP initiatives in eastern India to improve and advance the proper use of P and K in agricultural production.
